Kieran Walsh Construction
The project was designed by Jamie Whelan Studio on a traditional bungalow in Mitchelstown, Co Cork. The aim was to open up the house and better connect it to its setting. Originally, the bungalow felt closed off and disconnected from the landscape. It didn’t take advantage of views – with town to the front, open countryside behind, and a public pathway with mature trees on one side.
The redesign reoriented circulation and sightlines so that, on entering, your view is drawn straight through to the treeline behind the house. This helps give a sense of both the town in front and the landscape beyond. Natural light was a key focus: window proportions were adjusted to improve daylight quality, and the rear was opened up to let more light and landscape into living spaces.
Inside, light is used to guide movement and mark transitions — darker areas prepare your eyes to focus on the landscape views.
Materials mix original elements like white rendered walls with new concrete and timber, plus black fiber cement roof slates and oak and stone finishes internally.

Turn Key Finish
Kieran Walsh Construction can manage all aspects of the interior of your new home. After your house has been constructed, the interior is completed throughout the entire house, glazed tiles laid in the kitchen and bathrooms, and sanitary ware installed. Your choice of either flooring will have been laid on all floors, so you can basically bring your furniture and start enjoying your new home straight away.
